Autobiography of a Yogi by Paramahansa Yogananda

This book is really special. It has been my friend and companion on this long inner journey.

This is an inspiring tale about the life of a Yogi, his experiences and encounters with great spiritual Masters and his message to humanity. I have read this book at least 5 times and everytime I receive new insights.

Guidelines for the sincere seekers

Besides telling a great tale, Paramahansa Yogananda also gives the sincere and dedicated student of Yoga a lot of hints. It is necessary to read and re-read this book to find the tips and hints of the great Master, since our minds do not always grasp these in the very first reading.

The chapter "The Science of Kriya Yoga" explains the need for a scientific and systematic approach to deepen our spirituality.

Another wonderful chapter is "The Resurrection of Sri Yukteswar", where the map of the universe is unfolded and described in a language that we all can follow. This chapter is really the key to advanced understanding of Yoga, Vedanta and Tantra.

Western seekers and/or seekers coming from a Christian background will find this spiritual classic particularly interesting because it looks for and finds a common ground between Christianity and eastern philosophies of life.

For a lot of western readers and more so modern Indian readers, the book provides a background of the ageless traditions of Yoga, of the ancient lineages of Sages and Masters and of course about Paramahansa Yogananda himself.

About the Swami Yogananda and ancient tradition of Yoga

Mukund Ghosh, became Swami Yogananda, when he took monastic vows. He was guided by his Master Swami Sri Yukteswara Giri, of the ancient lineage of the Immortal Babaji and Sri Lahiri Mahasaya. Swami Yogananda brought this spiritual wisdom to the United States, living and serving among his brethen in the United States for three decades. So great was his influence on the spiritual landscape that he was called Paramahansa, a title reserved only for the greatest of yogis.

This spiritual classic is a Must Read!
